When Creativity Strikes...

Image result for buttons

I love art and creating things with my hands. If I wasn't a writer I would definitely be painting on canvases and creating art pieces. I'm a novice at best, but I think if I really invested enough time in the craft I would be good at it.

Fall in Love with Boots!

It's that time of year again to wear boots. I am a summer person, but living here in Maryland away from my home country, the Bahamas, I have no choice but to deal with the changing seasons. What makes it bearable is having the option to wear boots during autumn. Check out these stylish booties:

Welcome to America!!!

Yesterday I became an United States citizen and I can't fully express how wonderful and empowering that huge step I made makes me feel. During the ceremony, I was one of 76 immigrants from 35 countries, and we all stood proudly, raising our right hand giving our oath to our new country - our new home: United States of America. As a now naturalized citizen, I was too excited to fill out my voter's registration form yesterday. Many of us new Americans filed in line after the ceremony to register to vote for the first time and we all received the proud congratulations from the reps that accepted our forms. And it got me to thinking of the so many born Americans that don't exercise their right to vote. That don't truly see how privileged they are to be Americans. We naturalized citizens sacrificed a lot to receive our certificates as proof of our new American citizenship and couldn't wait to express it. Unfortunately there are so many born citizens that take the right to vote for granted, among other things.

Need Affordable Glasses?

Try Eyebuy Direct. There are three of us in my household that wear glasses, and if any of you are familiar with purchasing specks - you know how expensive they can be. So I gave Eyebuy Direct a try this past month and I must say I am very pleased with the price and quality of the frame and lenses. I'm used to having to shell out at least $200 bucks for my glasses.

SHORT STORY - He Chose the Wrong One! - By: Khara Campbell

Disclaimer: NOT INTENDED FOR YOUNG AUDIENCE DUE TO GRAPHIC VIOLENCE.

This definitely tested my creative writing ability, I wanted to challenge myself so I went for it. This story is different from anything I've written before and I'm curious to know what you think.

He Chose the Wrong One!
By: Khara Campbell

I took my time applying my makeup this morning. My eyebrows are arched perfectly. Lashes thick, curved and long. Face smooth as butter. Oh, my red lipstick. How could I forget my signature piece? I dig into my makeup bag to find my favorite ruby red shade. I apply it expertly onto my full lips. MUAH! I look good. No conceitedness here. My self-esteem is perfectly intact and I know I look great for my 30-year-old self.

SHORT STORY - Forgive Me, Not? by Khara Campbell

Forgive me, not?

Written by: Khara Campbell

I’m two seconds away from a complete, irreversible meltdown. Yeah, I’m gonna lose it! My heart is beating like a freight train in my chest. My palms are sweaty, and I’m starting to hyperventilate. The deceitful lines on the pregnancy test are staring back at me. I’m pregnant! I fall back on the edge of the tub and stumble on it to sit before busting my head against its metal casting. I bend over, putting my head between my legs, trying – praying to get myself together before the darkness take me over.

KNOCK! KNOCK! “Mahari, are you okay?” I hear my husband Jackson ask from the other side of the door. I have been holed up in the bathroom for about twenty minutes.

Upcoming novel release - Color of Deception

I finished this novel last year and I am happy to announce that it will be releasing May 24th. I haven't started writing a new novel for this year yet, although I've outlined two that I want to write. One a murder mystery and a Christian fiction. But first I want to tackle another project, so with that being said, this upcoming novel release may be my last for this year.

What do you think of the cover? Whew! When I tell you that took some work - I'm not exaggerating! I was beginning to think I wouldn't get this cover finalized, but I'm happy with the outcome.

10 Ways “Phubbing” is Hurting Your Family

You’ve finally found a babysitter to stay with the kids, so you can enjoy a night out with your boo. But during the car ride to the restaurant, you are checking your Facebook status updates instead of talking to your husband in the car. At the restaurant, they ask you to wait 15 minutes (despite your reservation) and your husband starts checking work emails while you both sit and wait in silence.

Has this ever happened to you?

Unfortunately, it’s becoming a reality for far too many couples. Our love for technology is interfering with our love for each other. Crazy, right?

Should Marriage Have an Expiration Date?

Hmmmmmm? Think about that for a moment. Should marriages have an expiration date of maybe two-years and perhaps a 30-day renewal period before the marriage is automatically terminated? I heard this question asked on a radio show once, and found the topic quite interesting.

SHORT STORY - Where My Help Comes From

Where My Help Comes From

Written by: Khara Campbell

I slammed my hands against the front door frame to stop myself from tripping over a toy left on the floor by one of my two kids. “Ugh!” They’re trying to kill me, I swear. Not even in the mood to fuss at Dana and Aiden about it, after getting my balance, I kicked the toy to the side so hopefully no one else would be attacked by it. I’d get them to clean-up their messes when we get back home. Matter of fact, they need to go on punishment for not getting it done when I told them to do it last night before bed.

Cash In Your Blessings

Who remembers this? Excerpt from my first novel: Not My Will

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” Pastor Judah read from Isaiah 55:11.

Ty and I followed the scripture together, sharing his Bible. Erika, sitting next to me to my left, was following in her Bible, and Terrance, sitting right next to her on her left, followed in his Bible.

Wow, look at us, I thought momentarily as I looked to my left and right. We were all together in church. God, you are awesome!

Teen accused of live streaming friends rape. She got distracted by the "likes"

This case is disturbing on so many different levels. Why wasn't the defendant's first action to call the police? I can partially understand maybe why she started to record the assault for "evidence". There was so much more, however, that she could have done to help her so called friend. But she got caught up in the "likes". So her friend's well-being became a distant concern - wow! Social media has a lot of benefits, but instances like this makes me see how things were better without it.

State of the Church - Are hypocrites taking over?

I've been attending church from as early as I can remember, some with variance in denomination. I however prefer non-denominational churches because they tend to stay away from doctrines that I feel put people into systematic boxes that I don't agree with. For instance, some denominational church doctrines feel that women shouldn't wear pants, jewelry, among other things. I don't see how a woman wearing or not wearing such things measure their faith in God. But to each their own. However, such beliefs like the above and experiences many have in churches leave me to question, what is the state of the Church? Just recently Pope Francis made a stand about divorced people being accepted into the Catholic Church and those that are homosexual. It made me ponder about why that even had to be addressed. The church is for the lost, the broken, the sick, the sinners - so why did the Pope have to address such issues?

Find Pleasure in God

These are notes from the message I received at church today that I just had to blog about.

"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world." 1 John 2:15-16

Underground - My new favorite TV series #UndergroundWGN #BreakFree

Underground is my new favorite show. I was hooked just from the commercials and previews about it airing. And the show definitely has not disappointed me. My hubby is even hooked on to it too, so now it's our weekly show to watch together.

You are not responsible for other people's happiness by Bryant McGill

You all should know by now, that when I find an interesting article, I must share it you all, and this here is probably one of the best I've re-posted.

"It is not your job to make anyone else happy. You cannot please your parents. You can never please your children! Do what you do, to the best of your ability, with a loving intent, for the good of all involved."

exotic tropical vacation

Spring is coming. Except, not as fast as we all would like. That means it’s time to start making those travel plans. You may be thinking of an exotic tropical getaway but don’t have your passport yet. Well I found six tropical places to which you can travel without a lengthy wait for a passport. These days, U.S. citizens can travel to a handful of tropical destinations with just a drivers license in hand. Whether it’s an island paradise close to home or a more exotic location, all you’ll need is an ID and your sandals.

Branding Tips from Beyonce

So if you haven't heard about Beyonce's song and music video release last weekend you must have been under a rock somewhere because it's all over social media. But then again, maybe that's not necessarily a bad thing.
