I've seen a survey that showed many people do not take vacations. Some of the reasons are:
1. They use vacation days to schedule appointments to not interfere with taking time off from work.
2. Used to take care of sick child/relative etc.
3. Fear of losing job for taking extended leave.
4. Can't afford to.
I can't fault using or not using vacations days for the above mentioned, but I feel vacation days should be used for exactly what they are - days away from the norm. You don't have to have an extravagant getaway, a stay-cation would achieve the same effect if you are strict with not using your vacation days to check emails constantly, making business calls, doing chores, etc. Relax and enjoy a few days of doing something out of your normal everyday routine. Just CHILL!
Vacations are so important because it helps to rejuvenate you. We all need a recharge. After working long days, taking care of the kids and all the other stresses of life, it's great to just kickback and enjoy life instead of constantly being busy. Stress relief is a great vacation benefit which is great for your health. Also getting away from the norm can boost job performance. You would be able to return to work with a clear head and new ideas. Vacations are also great family bonding times. You get to really enjoy each other's company without distractions. Family time and creating precious memories together is so worth it. Enjoy your vacations for what they are - you deserve it!
