In today’s society of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Reality TV, Music Videos… the list can go on; but it today’s world where it seems everyone and their mama are in some ways “flaunting or pretending” to be something that they’re not, or showing off what they have all over the place it can sometimes make you feel “some type of way.” You may start to wonder “am I keeping up?” “I can’t let them think I don’t have my ‘things’ in order” or it may have the opposite affect – jealously or you may begin to feel badly about yourself because you may feel like you can’t measure up to all the “things” others have. What I’ve learnt is you should NEVER try to compete with others, NEVER! Now healthy competition is good if it motivates you for better, but I’m talking about competing against the false images of others or even the realness of others. Because what is for you is for you and you should never compare yourself to others because the goals and the journey God has for you to take is different from others. Even people with the same talents have different journeys on their road of fulfilling their God given desires. So there is no need to look at others and feel like you have to “keep up” or become jealous. There is no need for that. Now shame on those that falsely try to impress others, but those that are successfully in a place where you want to be shouldn’t be hated on. Yeah they may have accomplished certain things before you, but again their journey is different from yours. Instead you should glean from them, learn their strategy which can help you accomplish what you want so you won’t have to falsely advertise. Quite frankly trying to keep up with others is a fast road of failure because you will never truly measure up. Other’s opinion of you and your life goals shouldn’t be your quest – God’s opinion should. And once you are truly focused on God, focused on fulfilling His plans for your life – success will overtake and you will accomplish more beyond your wildest imagination. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11). So stay in your lane and allow God to prosper you there.
