My review of the movie 12 Years A Slave

My husband and I went to watch 12 Years A Slave last night, and I have to say that is probably the best movie I've seen all year. 12 Years A Slave is based on the real life events of Solomon Northup, a free Black man living in the 1840s in the US, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor.  Solomon was a musician playing the fiddle and was lured under the pretense of playing the fiddle with some men, into a trap of being sold into slavery and shipped to New Orleans.  One night he's a free man, playing the fiddle and the next morning he's chained hand and foot to a wall.  In order to survive his slavery, Solomon is forced to take on a new identity, hiding the fact that he has a family, is educated and is a free man with papers, if only he could get a letter to his family.  For 12 years Solomon endures the brutality of slavery until he finds favors and is able to regain his freedom.

I don't want to give all the details away about the movie, so you have to go and watch it.  If this is the last movie you see this year I think you will be pleased.  This movie makes you want to cry, cuss, punch someone in the face, and start the cycle all over again.  The acting was awesome, the depiction of the ordeal of slavery was so realistic and heartfelt, it made you feel like you were right there experiencing the turmoil with Solomon.  There are some tough parts in this movie to see, so be prepared.  Chiwetel Ejiofor did an awesome job acting this role.  Oh and Brad Pitts in it too if that helps persuade you. (Read more about movie here)
