Fall into a Great Book

For many, the season of fall is when the weather gets cooler, you pull out your favorite sweaters and boots, and thoughts of fall leaves, pumpkins and fall flowers like mums are on your mind.  Now is also a perfect time to curl up with a really good book.  Here are six that I think are worthy to add to your fall book reading list:

Operation Book Cover Design COMPLETE!

So I've blogged already about the process of creating a cover design for my debut novel "Not My Will", how tedious it was looking at hundreds of pictures trying to find the perfect match to depict my vision for the cover.  I wanted something that would show some type of struggle the main character Virtue will have in the story.  Here are the three images I narrowed my search down to:

Six Sloppy Speech Habits by Diane Diresta

This article attracted me because it's about speech - how you speak to other people conveys a lot about you, not only to an employer, but other people you come in contact with.

The Cash Rule$ of Marriage - Love & Sex - EBONY (by: The Lovers Rocque)

I found the below article very interesting and worthy to share, I especially like this line:

"It’s funny when you think about it. You could ask someone to share his/her body with you and, if you’re lucky, after a few dates (or maybe a few drinks) you’d get lucky. But ask that same person about something as simple as how much money they make and you’ll get crickets. People just seem to be tight-lipped when it comes to the specifics of their finances."

Finances are a major issue in many relationships and if details aren't shared in the beginning and set goals for handling finances aren't made it can really destroy a relationship. (Khara)

I thought getting a publishing contract was hard - it's what comes after that is...

I am so excited and nervous about finally getting a publishing contract for my debut novel "Not My Will", I've been searching for an agent and or a publisher for almost two years now for this novel and I've had many days of just wanting to give up.  I felt it was a pipe dream - this chick from the islands actually publishing a novel? Really!?  I've had so many no's, it's not a right fit for us, etc, etc.  But I thank God that whenever self doubt tried to storm in my mind, He brought the right thing: words of encouragement, a song, a scripture from memory, a stranger, my husband, my kids, a friend, something to bring me back to the bigger picture and realize that I must not give up on the dream He has instilled inside of me.

Cinderonce by Todrick Hall

I just watched this fun creative video posted by Essence Magazine online that I had to share with you.  I haven't watched American Idol in a loooong time, so I didn't know about Todrick Hall who was a semifinalist, but he made this Cinderonce video featuring Beyonce's music.  I think he did a great job.  I love the creativity. What do you think?

Let's talk about sex...

What does intimacy mean to you? In todays society intimacy seems to only mean sex. But some people can have sex without true intimacy. So what does intimacy truly mean? I feel intimacy means an unspoken closeness and special bond thats far beyond the physical of sex; sex should only enhance this special bond in my opinion. Intimacy is important in a relationship and should be a major ingredient. But in todays society I feel that intimacy is being portrayed only as sex, sex, sex; which quite frankly unless you are having sex 24/7 with mind blowing orgasms you are going to need a whole lot more than sex to have a healthy, loving, lasting relationship.
Are we as a society oversexed and losing the true meaning of love and relationship?

Constant communication with God

Along with finding quality time to get in your bible and pray to God, let prayer and worship be a part of your DAILY activities: washing clothes, driving, taking care of your kids, on the job etc:

I read this passage from Andrew Wommack's book: "A Better Way To Pray" and wanted to share:

Sometimes our biggest naysayer is ourselves...

Sometimes our biggest naysayer is ourselves.  We talk ourselves out of our blessing, out of pursuing our dreams, out of truly growing in life, we blame others, but truly it's ourselves that is holding us back.  So it's about time we look at ourselves in the mirror and say "God knew me before I was even born, He planned my life out perfectly, so I am no longer going to stand in my own way of a blessing. So self, get ready for some great things ahead, God's got my back!" Now who can stop you now - nobody.  "Go get your blessing" in my Mary Mary voice.

Please review my Childrens Book - Island Girl

REVIEWS NEEDED. Please if you would be so kind, if you have read my children's book I would really appreciate it if you write a review for me. I just realized that I have received a lot of verbal reviews, but I don't have any online, which would be VERY helpful. Please find a couple minutes to do this for me. Thanks!

So what you're not perfect - who is?

Have you ever read or heard something and immediately have an "ah ha moment" like Oprah says?  Well I got that from this excerpt from Rick Warren's book: "The Purpose Drive Life - What On Earth Am I Here For?" a few months ago.  I took a picture of it and kept it in my phone as inspiration.

Take me to the King!

I really love this song: "Take me to the King" sung by Tamela Mann.  The words are so true to me when I am feeling hopeless and depression from whatever situation I may be facing tries to seep in and keep me in a constant state of feeling defeated.  Sometimes I don't feel like praying even though my soul cries out to the Lord.  Sometimes I don't feel like getting up and carry on with my day when all I feel like doing is hiding, wanting to be swallowed up or to just vanish and reappear when all is well.  One of the things I like about this song is that it reminds me of the Woman with the issue of blood in the bible (

Back to life, back to reality!

Why does it ALWAYS feel like you need a vacation from the vacation and was it really a vacation when little kids are in tow?  I'm just asking; but I did have a great time with my family and I'm also happy to get back into my daily routine.

Bahamian Made

There is so much more to The Bahamas than sun, sand and sea - there's also Bahamas fashion too.  Here are some authentic, Bahamian made (no knockoffs!) accessories; walking in here I wish I had some of Beyonce money because I wanted everything, but settled only on a $25 purchase.

23rd Psalms sung by Buju Banton

I am so thankful to God for His perfect help and strength.

I can recite the entire 23rd Psalms thanks to my 5th grade teacher at Carmichael Primary School in the Bahamas.  I remember we won't allowed in the classroom until we were able to recite this with very little mistakes.  And with the Bahamas sun bearing down upon us outside the classroom, let me just say we had plenty motivation.  I hated at the time that we had to recite this as a class, but I am so thankful now.  I also love how Buju Banton sings it, I hope you enjoy it too. One of my favorite songs by him.

Happy 61st Birthday Daddy!

A special tribute to my daddy, today is his 61st birthday.
I miss you so much, but I am so happy that you are in a better place.  There's so much about my life that I wish you were experiencing with me, but I cherish all our sweet memories together and I won't allow Father's Day and your birthday to get me too sad.  I love you daddy!

Cheerios ad featuring an interracial family

Has anyone seen the Cheerios ad featuring an interracial family?  Well apparently it received/is receiving a lot of backlash from some viewers and after watching it I'm like - "Why?"  I do not see what issues people are having with it unless they're stuck in a few centuries ago.  Thankfully Cheerios is not offended by the naysayers and are sticking to their ad.  What do you think?

And the Father's Day giveaway winners are...

Thank you to all that entered the giveaway.  One of the entries emailed me their answers and I didn't have a chance to post them for everyone to see before I selected the winners, but I will post it for you now.

Moore, Oklahoma needs our help! Red Cross Disaster relief

I just donated to the Red Cross for the disaster relief for Moore, Oklahoma.  Please find it in your heart to donate as well, every dollar adds up.  They've lost so much, and it just goes to show that our lives can change in an instant.  But it's such a blessing to have others concerned and willing to help those in need.

Maryland Crab Soup

I tried this recipe last night and it was delicious!  I've been sick with a sinus infection so I am a little congested and felt like eating soup for dinner, plus I also had another container of crab meat that I got from Nick's of Clinton that I wanted to do something with so I found this recipe.  It is really easy (which I love) and it didn't take long to cook either.  If you are a soup and or a crab person this is worth a try on your weekly dinner menu.

Helping seafood everywhere reach its full flavor potential.
A mix of hearty vegetables and fresh lump crabmeat, Maryland Crab Soup reminds us of meals in mom’s kitchen, when the smell of blue crabs and OLD BAY® filled the entire house. This recipe serves ten loved ones.

1 can (28 ounces) whole tomatoes, cut into small pieces
3 cups water
2 cups beef broth
1 cup lima beans, frozen
1 cup baby carrots, sliced
1 cup yellow sweet corn, frozen
2 tablespoons McCormick® Chopped Onions
1 tablespoon OLD BAY® Seasoning
1 pound crabmeat

Combine tomatoes, water, broth, lima beans, carrots, corn, onions and OLD BAY in 4-quart saucepan.

Bring to boil on medium heat. Reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer 5 minutes.Add crabmeat. Cover and simmer 10 minutes.
